"Dew" Programmed by The Trans-Pacific Trio

I'm happy to announce that The Trans-Pacific Trio will be performing my composition, "Dew" for soprano and piano, in their program on May 17th, 2025, in Livonia, Michigan. The text for "Dew" is based on a haiku by Kobayashi Issa, one of the most important poets of 19th century Japan.

"Dew" is a profound meditation on the transience of life. The image of dew, fragile and fleeting, serves as a metaphor for the impermanence of human existence. Yet, the repetition of “and yet” reflects a lingering emotional complexity—a sense of attachment, yearning, or perhaps even defiance against the ephemerality of the world. Issa wrote this poem shortly after the death of his one year-old daughter.

I'll let you know more about the performance as it gets closer.
